A Finnish children’s picture book, The Drops of Life (Kyyhkyn kysymys), written by the Finlandia Junior-winning author Esko-Pekka Tiitinen and illustrated by Nikolai Tiitinen, will be published in Spanish in autumn 2011 and in English in the spring of 2012.
The Elina Ahlbäck Literary Agency, representing Tammi Publishers’ authors worldwide, sold the world Spanish and English rights to the eco-conscious Spanish publisher Cuento de Luz in March. According to the translation agreement, The Drops of Life will be read in Spain, the USA, Canada, Great Britain, India, the Philippines, Mexico and Argentina, among other countries. An eBook version is also in the works.
A dramatic version of The Drops of Life was originally created for the ENO Programme, Environment Online’s global virtual school and network for sustainable development, in 2007. It has since been performed in over 100 countries and over five million trees have been planted on Tree Planting Days, which are part of the ENO Programme. The target is to plant 100 million trees by the end of 2017, marking the 100th Anniversary of Finland’s Declaration of Independence.
