Author Salla Simukka’s massive international success, The Snow White Trilogy, continues its world invasion. Most recently Buku Fixi, publisher of Haruki Murakami in Malaysia, has acquired rights to the trilogy, bringing the total of sold territories to 40. Congratulations Salla!
Earlier this year rights to The Snow White Trilogy were sold in Thailand to Nanmee Books and in Japan to Nishimura. The third entry in the series, As Black as Ebony (Musta kuin eebenpuu, Tammi 2014), debuted in Finland in February to an enthusiastic critical reception.
In December of 2013 (*) Simukka was awarded the prestigious Finland Prize in recognition of a promising breakthrough:
“Salla Simukka made her exceptionally strong international breakthrough with her Snow White Trilogy, YA thrillers starring Lumikki Andersson. The opening of the series, As Red as Blood (Punainen kuin veri, Tammi 2013), was released in Finland in Spring 2013, with the second part, As White as Snow (Valkea kuin lumi, Tammi 2013), following hot on its heels in Fall 2013. Rights to the trilogy have been sold in 37 (*) territories worldwide. No other Finnish author has achieved such success before.”
-The Finland Prize jury
Since the publication of As Red as Blood, the trilogy has been praised by international publishers:
“Discovering these fantastically crafted novels by the very talented Finnish author Salla Simukka has been a real highlight this year for me. Salla’s courageous and vivid heroine, Lumikki, takes us on a compelling journey, and this outstanding sensual thriller sequence will utterly entrance readers!”
-Emily Thomas, Publisher, Hot Key Books, UK
“Salla Simukka’s stories have a lot of atmosphere in every scene, and she is very skilled in plotting out a really suspenseful story and creating wonderful characters. German readers will adore Lumikki.”
–Nikoletta Enzmann, Editor, Arena Verlag, Germany
“Lumikki is a strong and vibrant heroine whose trials and tribulations I personally look forward to sharing with our readers. No doubt this new voice will have the greatest happily ever after with the French YA community of readers.”
–Aurélia Goyens, Editor, Hachette Livre, France
“The phrase ‘grabs you and doesn’t let go’ never made more sense. More importantly, this quells any doubt about whether commercial appeal is antithetic to literary quality.”
–Iolanda Batallé Prats, Publishing Director, La Galera, Spain & Catalan
“Salla Simukka writes very intelligent, fluent and exciting books with the right tension and balance between romance, intrigue and crime. We believe Dutch and Belgian young adults will be hungry to read these books.”
–Philippe Werck, Publisher, Clavis Books, Netherlands & Belgium
