We are thrilled to announce that THE HORNED GOD is nominated for this year’s FINLANDIA PRIZE in the category BEST CHILDREN’S & YA TITLE 2023!
THE HORNED GOD is a YA horror novel by Magdalena Hai, winner of the Finnish Literary Export Prize (2017) and Kaarina Helakisa Prize (2020). Her books have been sold into close to 30 languages. The Finnish cover design is by Karin Niemi.
Motivation of the Finlandia jury:
“The novel describes a time in life where one life ends and another should begin, but nothing is as it was. The book creates the world of youth with skill and the dynamic structure and surprisingness are kept till the end. The short novel captures many twists, levels, and emotions with a gripping style. The title has horror, guilt, and appealing symbolism, starting with the dramatic cover. It is a true YA novel.”
Finlandia is the most prestigious literary award in Finland, worth 30 000 euros. The winner will be announced on November 29th.
