Ann-Catrin Mattsson
Ann-Catrin Mattsson (born 1984) is a Swedish writer, coach, and lecturer deeply connected to the forests of Sweden with a background in history and creative writing. Celebrated for her acclaimed historical fantasy series, EARTHBORN, Ann-Catrin is an unusual voice in the Swedish literary landscape. Her blend of dramatic tension, epic saga, and historical romance, drawing comparisons to works like Outlander, A Discovery of Witches, and the Brothers Grimm. She counts Astrid Lindgren among her all-time favorite authors.
Initially an "unwilling author," Ann-Catrin had no plans to write a book while juggling family-life, blogging and building. However, a reluctant visit to a medium sparked the creation of the Earthborn series. The debut novel, Daughter of Earth, received unanimous praise from book bloggers across Instagram and TikTok.
In 2024, the EARTHBORN series claimed the top spot in the Swedish Fantastic Council's ranking of fantasy series in the Adult category. Previously, the series earned accolades such as Debut of the Year 2022 and Series of the Year 2023 in its genre.
“My books are aimed at an adult audience, yet they embrace the same elements that fascinated me as a child: adventure, identity, family dynamics, love and death.”
Residing in a picturesque Falu red cottage in Dalsland, Sweden, Ann-Catrin draws inspiration from landscapes reminiscent of Ronja the Robber’s Daughter, reflecting both her personal life and the thematic depth of the Earthborn series.
