We are happy to announce that author Minna Lindgren has signed a representation agreement with our agency. We are selling the world rights to Lindgren’s acclaimed Death in Twilight Grove (Kuolema Ehtoolehdossa, Teos 2013), as well as future works.
Minna Lindgren (b. 1963) is a freelance journalist and columnist known for her whimsical writing style and fearless approach to topics as strange as opera and death. In 2009 she won the Bonnier Journalism Prize for her article entitled “Father’s Death” (“Isän kuolema”). Now Lindgren takes a sharp and satirical look at life inside a retirement home in mystery novel that she plans to expand into a trilogy. The first part of her Twilight Grove trilogy, Death in Twilight Grove, has been a critical and commercial success. A second entry with a working title of Refugees of Twilight Grove (Ehtoolehdon pakolaiset) will be published in May of 2014. Well-known British-born Finnish director Neil Hardwick is currently working on a film adaptation of the first book.
”Minna Lindgren has written a mystery that, amidst its humour and tragedy, communicates much of the distress, indifference and shameless money-grubbing that are found in the treatment of the elderly,” said Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE in a review of the book.
“The characters of Siiri, Irma and Anna-Liisa are believable and full-blooded, as literary characters should be – not paper dolls. They are also funny…Lindgren’s humour easily brings to mind Giovanni Guaresch’s Don Camillo series, Graham Greene’s Monsignor Quixote and Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple. But while Greene puts his characters face to face with death in order to shake the truth out of them, Lindgren’s women offer up attitude and wisdom ripened by life,” said Helsingin Sanomat newspaper.
