Thanks to the enormous Nordic crime literature phenomenon, the foreign rights sales of Finnish literature is doing better than ever. Leena Lehtolainen‘s Maria Kallio series, Marko Hautala‘s psychological thrillers and Finnish fantasy novels are all read by North American publishers and acquiring editors at the moment, reports Literary Agent Elina Ahlbäck fresh from her sales trip to NY. The pace is about to get ever faster towards the end of the year as literature lovers are first gathering to the Gothenburg Book Fair this week before heading south to Frankfurt to world’s biggest book fair in October.
