We are proud to announce that Klett-Cotta has acquired German rights to Johanna Sinisalo’s forthcoming book inspired by the 2012 cult film Iron Sky, produced in collaboration with Iron Sky Universe. The tongue-in-cheek action film, which follows a group of Nazis who attack the earth many decades after escaping to the moon in 1945, was based on a story by Sinisalo. A sequel entitled The Coming Race recently finished an ambitious crowdfunding campaign via IndieGoGo, and is currently in pre-production.
Klett-Cotta published Sinisalo’s latest novel, The Core of the Sun (Teos 2013), in fall 2014.
Renate’s Story, based on the original Iron Sky story, focuses on the character of Renate Richter as she learns to navigate the unfamiliar environment of Planet Earth. To the delight of Iron Sky fans, the narrative of the novel includes new characters and expands on many elements of the story not seen in the film, including what Renate’s childhood was like.

Advance praise:
“Johanna Sinisalo’s playful handling of ancient or modern mythology, sci-fi fantasy and what we call reality has made her an absolutely unique and remarkable literary voice. I am sure that Renate’s Story, the novelization of the hilarious movie Iron Sky, is going to be a crazy, funny and brilliant piece of literature.”
– Tom Kraushaar, publisher, Klett-Cotta
Sinisalo has an active international fan base, and has been widely praised for her wildly imaginative, sharp and darkly humorous storytelling. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Finlandia Prize in 2000.
Recently The Blood of Angels (Teos 2011), published in the U.S and UK by Peter Owen in fall of 2014, received starred reviews from Library Journal and Booklist, as well as praise from Kirkus Reviews and Publishers Weekly. Sinisalo has also been selected as guest of honour for Eurocon 2016, a notable European science fiction convention held in Barcelona, Spain. The Core of the Sun is slated for publication in the U.S by Grove Atlantic in early 2016.
