We are very happy to announce that Johnny Kniga, part of the Bonnier Group, has acquired Finnish rights to Iron Sky: Renate’s Story, Johanna Sinisalo’s forthcoming book inspired by the 2012 cult film Iron Sky. Rights to the novel, produced in collaboration with Iron Sky Universe, were previously sold in Germany to Klett-Cotta.
Iron Sky, a tongue-in-cheek action film following a group of Nazis who attack the earth many decades after escaping to the moon in 1945, was based on a story by Sinisalo. A sequel entitled The Coming Race will shoot next year in Belgium; its budget of roughly 17 million euros was funded in part by a crowdfunding campaign via IndieGoGo,
The novel Renate’s Story is based on the original Iron Sky story, but includes new characters and deepens many elements of the narrative not seen in the film. It focuses on the character of Renate Richter as she learns to navigate the unfamiliar environment of Planet Earth, and expands on Renate’s backstory.
“Johanna Sinisalo’s playful handling of ancient or modern mythology, sci-fi fantasy and what we call reality has made her an absolutely unique and remarkable literary voice. I am sure that Renate’s Story, the novelization of the hilarious movie Iron Sky, is going to be a crazy, funny and brilliant piece of literature.”
– Tom Kraushaar, publisher, Klett-Cotta
